“R.e.d.d es una caricatura”

La banda R.e.d.d. una agrupación salvadoreña que cuenta con 10 años en el combate ya cuenta con su página oficial en la web. Se trata de www.redd.com.sv un sitio en el que encontrarás todas las intimidades de estos chicos. Musica.com.sv te cuenta detalles sobre esta importante banda de “ska criollo” guanaco.

AMIGOS ANTES QUE TODO

Era el año 1992, la guerra civil salvadoreña había llegado a su fin después de doce años de conflicto. La juventud de ese entonces respiraba un clima más “cool” y la vida nocturna del país retornaba a su lugar y también así lo hicieron las bandas. Es este el momento en que se empieza a gestar R.e.d.d. “u n grupo de amigos decide formar una banda de rock, motivados por la idea de expresar su pensar, sus sentimientos y por supuesto......... las chicas. Al principio se aventuran a tocar covers de bandas de rock clásico, luego pasaron a definir su preferencia hacia bandas como The Beach Boys, Sex Pistols, Ramones, Beatles y Rolling Stones por mencionar algunas”. Así empieza el relato de su historia que encontrarás en su página.

De los miembros fundadores sólo quedan activos Oscar Gómez en la guitarra y Luis Selva, el de los teclados. ”Junto a ellos pasó un buen número de jóvenes que por diversas razones tuvieron que abandonar el sueño de ser una estrella de rock”, dicen.

“Cuando estábamos en el colegio buscamos una forma como expresarnos una cosa nueva porque había rock, pero el que había era heavy metal y cosas así. Entonces tratamos de buscar un estilo nuevo fusionando de todo. No queríamos que nos catalogaran que éramos solamente punk o sólo ska, o rock. Todo lo que nos gustaba lo íbamos mezclando. Somos una fusión”, explica a musica.com.sv Luis Selva.

 El Primer disco de R.e.d.d sale a la luz en 1996 y se titulaba “Losers of the eleven” (los perdedores de la 11) habla “básicamente de ecología por que era eso en lo que nos habíamos clavado”, dice Luis Selva. “El disco era en inglés y tenía también una canción en español. Las letras era bien ecológicos. Lo sacamos en inglés porque tenía una letra muy fuerte. “Eso de cantar en inglés toda la mara lo hace, nosotros fuimos de los últimos que dimos la pauta para que los nuevos bichos que sacaran un grupo ya no empezaran cantando en inglés. Lo que pasa es que antes la gente no te consumía Rock en Español”.

 R.e.d.d explica que cantar en inglés no era su onda por lo que su segundo disco cambió de idioma. Los integrantes de la banda explican que una clave de su longevidad – ya que en este país es raro el grupo de rock que pasa de los 4 años de vida - es que ante todo ellos son un grupo de amigos. “En el grupo hay una democracia. Todos tienen voz. Somos como una familia”, afirma.

La banda relata que en los primeros años de paz era muy difícil encontrar un lugar adonde tocar. “El clásico y desaparecido Chantilly se convertiría en la cuna de la nueva generación del rock nacional, generación que se benefició del boom alternativo de los 90's y del renacimiento del rock en español. Los jóvenes sedientos de escuchar a Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Collective Soul, entre otros, abarrotaban el Chantilly y R.E.D.D. era protagonista indiscutido junto a otras bandas que por desgracia ya desaparecieron”.

De su primer disco la banda logra meter “gracias a la oportunidad que dio Sergio "El Pollo" Bustamante, Dj de radio femenina, el sencillo "Sweet Summer Love", sonó durante un bien tiempo en las radios. Así el grupo empezó a darse a conocer. En esos tiempos el movimiento roquero empezaba a fortalecerse. En San Salvador surgieron muchos bares adonde muchas bandas empezaron a dar sus primeros pasos.

En 1998 el grupo entra de nuevo en el estudio y surge el disco "LA VENGANZA DE LOS REDS". De ahí salen temas inolvidables para bien o para mal como “Tipo Normal", "Bolo y Solo", "Miserias", "Sentado al Revés" y "El Disfraz".

“Ese mismo año la banda arrasó con los premios Pentagrama - Los Grammy de El Salvador -, consolidándose como la mejor banda en El salvador. El hit "Bolo y Solo" himno de la banda, se llevó el premio a mejor canción”, así dicen los muchachos.

En su historia oficial los muchachos relatan: “La aceptación del grupo ha sido todo un fenómeno, al punto de meter en Enero de 1999 a más de 5 mil personas en un centro comercial ubicado en Ciudad Merliot. Fue allí donde el productor francés David Thomas de la disquera WTB Records los vio y los contrató para grabar un nuevo disco bajo su sello disquero. R.E.D.D. regresa al estudio a remasterizar su producción "LA VENGANZA DE LOS REDS" e incluir 3 temas nuevos: "El Corrido de los Reds", convirtiéndose en el segundo himno de la banda y madre del grito de batalla: "Apártense gatos secos......" "Bombón de Miel" y " Ya no quiero estar contigo" han tenido buena aceptación gracias a su estilo cómico y sarcástico. Desde el 98 la banda viene con el "Venganza Tour" donde se han hecho conciertos en todo el territorio nacional, casi todos los fines de semana”.

La alineación actual de R.e.d.d. se conforma por los hermanos Diego Selva (bajo) y Luis Selva (teclado), Carlos Golsher (amígdalas), Ángel Hernández (batería) Oscar Gómez (guitarra) Enrique Aguilar (saxofón) como planilla fija. Sin embargo, los acompañan Cristian Crespón (trombón) Julio Rivas (trompeta) “Ellos tocan en otras bandas, pero les gusta más tocar con R.e.d.d, lo que pasa es que no quieren aceptarlo”, dice Golsher.

SKA - CRIOLLO

“La música de R.e.d.d. se define como un Ska – Criollo. Nosotros no tocamos Ska argentino, un ska gringo ni nada por el estilo. Fusionamos el Punk con el Ska un poco más lento que el original haciéndolo salvadoreño y melodioso. Roberto Salamanca bautizó el término. Este viene de las raíces de los boleros. Es básicamente un bolero que lo tocamos rápido”, afirma Carlos Golsher quien asegura que es un Ska pero con intención de Bolero. “Por eso el “Bolo y sólo” o el “Corrido de los R.e.d.d.”

En 1999 R.e.d.d termina de grabar su tercer disco “Sigue la Venganza” de donde salen otros temas. En el año 2001 sale el disco “R.E.D.D. EN EL PAÍS DE LAS MARAVILLAS”, “Es un nombre alusivo a todas las cosas raras y graciosasa que suceden en nuestro país”, explican. En el disco la banda trae su consolidado estilo pero experimentando con sonidos de la música mexicana. De ahí salen temas como “Amigos con derechos”

“Este disco se lo dedicamos a El Salvador. Es como un espaldarazo a nuestro país sin embargo tratamos de ser también sarcásticos”. El disco tuvo retrasos y el grupo replanteó su contendido debido al contexto de zozobra que vivió El Salvador en esos días. En enero y febrero de 2001 el país sufre dos terremotos y R.e.d.d. participa en una telemaratón a beneficio de las víctimas de ambos siniestros.

 Finalmente el disco está listo en el 2002 cuando graban la última canción “obstáculos”.

 R.e.d.d. sabe que sus letras explotan mucha la cotidianidad de la juventud salvadoreña. “Nosotros hablamos cosas de nuestro país. De lo malo que tiene el país lo hacemos broma. Hay muchas bandas que se dedican a decir que hay cosas malas y hacen un rock en ese estilo. Nosotros no. Nosotros lo vemos del lado chistoso”, dice Golsher.

 “La canción “Miserias” es una canción ecológica que ha triunfado a nivel radial y comercial en el país. Es una canción que llama a la conciencia sobre problemas como la basura, la contaminación. R.e.d.d. maneja un humor negro en su manera de escribir la lírica”, enfatiza Golsher.

 “Nosotros somos una caricatura. R.e.d.d es una caricatura hecha música. Si le quitas la música ves que habla de la realidad del país. Por ejemplo la canción “Bolo y sólo” no te dice que vayas a tomar sino que dice que al final todos los bolos terminan solos. Te deja la familia, te deja la novia, etc.”, afirman. “En la canción “El corrido de los R.e.d.d. se habla de una serie de problemas serios que sufre el país pero lo que pasa es que existen cosas ínfimas, con que tengas un poco de diversión esos problemas se te olvidan”, dice Luis Selva.

 R.e.d.d termina este cuento diciendo que se sienten un grupo “Super nacionalista. R.e.d.d es una caricatura hecha música. No tiene ideología. Hacemos una crítica jocosa de la sociedad”. La banda cree que su mayor logro es mantenerse activos y que la gente llegue siempre a sus conciertos. “Esto es lo que queremos hacer toda la vida. Hacerle canciones al país, aquí estamos contentos. No nos vamos a hacer millonarios haciendo esto pero si logras que la gente cante tus canciones”.
